things to love: january edition

The first Love post of the year! And how perfect that it is on the first Friday of the year too! Before I get started, let me point you in the direction of yesterday’s STARBUCKS CARD GIVEAWAY post, in case you missed it. Entered? Good.

Onto the joyous things to love this month….

janloves.bare

#01) bare: the musical

Of course I have to kick off the love post with a musical that is all about love: bare! It’s been a few weeks since Boyfriend & I went to see this in NYC, and every day since, I’ve listened to the cast recording (well, the original) or had one of the songs stuck in my head, or found myself singing under my breath (or right out loud in the car, shower, etc.) There is something about this show. It has my heart. I also think it is so relavent, especially as an educator, with the themes of discrimination, bullying, cruelty, & loss. The reboot of the show utilizes social media in such an interesting way- one that is seamlessly integrated into the music, and it’s pretty inspiring and amazing to watch.

#02) colored pencils and coloring books

Confession: When home for the holidays, I love nothing more than busting out the colored pencils, coloring books, and going to town. I spent a pretty decent amount of time this past holiday season making sure that Hello Kitty was adorned with colorful bows and clothes. The side of wine only helped to get the creative juices flowing.

#03) at-home gel manicures

Another favorite pastime this holiday season: at-home manicures with gel polish and a mini LED light. I’d only gotten a gel manicure once before, at a salon, so it was a bit of an experiment to try it at home. The best part about this type of manicure is the lack of “waiting for the polish to dry” period. I am so impatient, and usually end up smudging the polish on the first object I come in contact with, post-manicure. With the little LED light, there’s practically no wait time and little room for error.

janloves.gonegirl

#04) book love = gone girl by gillian flynn

I’m a little slow with this one, as I know most of you have read Gone Girl this past summer and are on to the next great book, but I just finished this a few weeks ago and OHMGZ. I literally tore my way through it. I could not put it down. You know a book is good when you find yourself thinking about it nonstop, anticipating the next time you can read on. Word on the street is that it’s going to become a movie eventually, with Reese Witherspoon attached? Cannot wait.

janloves.parenthood

#05) parenthood (again)

I know that last month’s love post contained a shout-out to Parenthood, but I have to include it again. Thanks to Netflix (and our new AppleTV that Santa brought us), I’m now halfway through Season 3 (getting closer to being all caught up!) Of course, I ruin my mascara with every episode, and from the previews I’ve accidentally seen for the current season, I’m sure there’s a lot more cryfests to come. Can I just ask- why hasn’t this show gotten any Emmy recognition? It’s amazing. Get on that, Emmys!

janloves.stuffedanimals

#06) hooty the owl

Another gift from Santa, this little owl is medicinal and after a short spin in the microwave, his tummy becomes a warm compress. Aside from that, he’s pretty cute. Not going to lie, I definitely have a weak spot for cute stuffed animals. I may be a five-year-old on the inside.

janloves.scarf

#07) this awesome scarf

I have been living in this scarf since Christmas break– totally in love with it! The fact that it has three or four separate patterns makes it okay to wear with almost anything. The first day I wore it, I walked into an Anthropologie store and was bombarded with compliments by 3 of the 4 salesgirls working there. I will take it as a good sign if Anthropologie employees are complimenting my outfit.

What are you loving this January?
