Hi interwebs- I haven’t blogged for a week. Hopefully you haven’t forgotten about me. My hiatus is over and I’m hoping to get back to the daily grind. I’m going to blog one day ahead from now on…take advantage of the “schedule publish” feature. Before I start, can I plead – dearest readers, help me get to 100 followers on Twitter! I want to announce something really really cool! Last night, I registered for the 2013 Blend Retreat along with Kate (Quarter Century Southern Living) and Ashley (Cupcakes n’ Crunches). Basically, it’s a weekend retreat in Park City, Utah for lifestyle/fitness bloggers. Unlike other blog retreats, instead of formal lectures or speakers, it seems like more of a relaxed environment for building friendships. I am so excited! I’ve also never been out to that part of the country, so I’m really looking forward to the travel aspect. I am sure we are going to meet lots of great people. Pictures are to be expected.

In other news, I spent my Saturday down in Boston to participate in Project 351.

proj351

In a nutshell, Project 351 is a relatively new event created by Governor Patrick in which one 8th grade student from each of Massachusetts’ 351 cities/towns is selected to participate in a day of service, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

I went along as a chaperone to the student from my school. It was so inspiring and refreshing to be surrounded by so many compassionate, friendly, and caring students. My service site was at the Greater Boston Food Bank, where I helped put together backpacks of healthy snacks for kids who get free & reduced lunch but don’t have enough to eat over the weekend. The whole experience was very humbling- we often forget how fortunate we are, and take for granted the quick yogurt grabbed from the fridge, the coffee purchased at the drive-through window. I’m grateful for all that I have in my own life and am happy that I was able to help others, at least a little bit.

Maybe it’s a circling of good karma, but on Sunday morning, I woke up to a phone call from a delivery man outside my apartment. My former work team had sent a huge fruit arrangement, complete with chocolate covered oranges.

It was such a nice gesture and made me really miss seeing their faces every day at work. They’ve all gone on to different avenues this year, and I miss our hallway chats and silly emails throughout the day. But I am lucky to have had a few great years with that team– it’s not every day that someone can say they have one amazing co-worker, let alone four. Miss you guys! <3

Up soon: a nacho recipe (yes) and more…!

P.S. Dear readers in case you missed it up top, help me get to 100 followers on Twitter! Follow @Cooking4OthrHlf - please & thank you! I’m such a newb, I know.
