Last night, after dinner, I made some hot chocolate, grabbed my box of nail products, and curled up in front of the TV to watch (for the zillionth time) one of the greatest movies of all time: Clueless. As mentioned yesterday, Boyfriend was working late, so I decided I’d treat myself to a girly evening: manicures and a chick-flick. But not just any chick-flick. The chick-flick of ALL chick-flicks, the motherload. Almost two decades (!!!) since this movie came out, and I can still never, ever get sick of it. Ever.

I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it’s some combination of cute lingo (monet! baldwin! betty!) and Paul Rudd in his prime, with a side of RIP Brit-Murph. But this movie never gets old, and never fails to put me in a good mood. In part, I think it’s because we all wish we were BFFs with Cher Horowitz.

Yes…even if she was (cue cymbal crash) clueless. An adorable clueless, that is. (And who else laughs like hell at the “oh my gosh the freewaayyyyy” scene? It’s so ridiculous I love it.) This movie was always a staple at sleepovers growing up. In fact, while watching last night, I felt compelled to quote it on my friend’s facebook timeline, which naturally led to this conversation ensuing:

Truth be told, this conversation went on for at least an hour.

Clueless is an easy go-to when I am looking for some “me time”, but there are other favorites as well. Sometimes it’s all about the Gilmore Girls:

Though watching Rory & Lorelai eat (junk food, pancakes, Chinese food, you name it) usually makes me want to eat the equivalent.

When I was home for college breaks, my mom and I would have hours of Gilmore Girls marathons. We would also write each other handwritten letters while I was in college, addressed to “Rory” and “Lorelai”. Insert “aw” here.

Another favorite:

How could you resist those faces? Fact: The OC jumped the shark so badly the second Marissa Cooper’s car went off the road, but Seasons 1 & 2 were golden.

And last but not least, the epitome, the absolute word in girl time:

I will always, always have a fond place in my heart for Carrie Bradshaw and the Sex & the City girls. No matter how many time I watch all the seasons (though 3 & 4 are arguably the best), I can easily get right back into another marathon. I’ll always be Team Aiden 4 Life though. The movies, not so much, but there was at least this part:

Right there with you, Charlotte York.

Reader Question: What movie or TV show can you watch over and over?

  1. Clueless is such a classic! I can still remember watching it on VHS! I should probably be embarrassed to share my all-time go-to shows because I sound like a child, but I love Full House. My mom and I used to have Gilmore Girls marathons too :) I think I just make believe lived in Stars Hollow.

  2. Can we please just get together and watch Sex and the City all day?? And Gilmore Girls. And Clueless. I can watch Friends over and over and never get sick of it.

  3. I LOVE this post. My boyfriend works late every night, so I don’t take advantage of the “me” time often enough. Clueless wasn’t ever a movie I was a huge fan of (don’t hate me!), but this post makes me want to watch it so badly! I also now want to re-watch Gilmore Girls and The O.C. (I watch Sex and the City on a regular basis, so I’m absolutely with you on that one.) Friends is the show I can watch every episode of without ever getting sick of. There are plenty of shows that are pretty close though.

    • Yeah Friends is another good one! Maybe because the episodes are so short, it’s easy to get hooked into a marathon….

I haven’t watched The OC in a while, truth be told, but I feel like starting at the beginning of Season 1 and getting hooked all over again.

  4. Uh, I do love all of your favorites and this post just made me crave an evening with the girls, all of the movies and series mentioned above and a huge bowl of popcorn (add some donuts and pizza in while watching gilmore girls – damn those girls know how to get you hungry ;) ). Perfectness!

  5. OMG I used to love the OC, and I kind of miss it actually!

  6. The main two TV shows that I can watch over and over again are Friends and Full House. They never get old!

  7. I can watch Sex and City and Friends over & over & over again!!! And they always make me laugh.

  8. I can watch Sex and the City and Friends over & over & over!!! They are my favorites and always make me laugh. Love Clueless! Awww..it brings back memories.

  9. Oh Clueless will definitely always be a classic. That one and Mean Girls is just the epitome of chick flicks. Love them. As for show that I can watch over and over? Easily SATC. I have the whole thing on DVD, and I swear that I’ve probably watched each season at least 3 or 4 times.
